Kamar Groves
Co-developer of this Jamaican Sign Language course and the main tutor, Kamar Groves has been Deaf for 27 years, following a bout of meningitis as a young child.
Kamar has a wealth of experience in teaching Jamaican Sign Language. He has been successfully trained in Jamaica Association for the Deaf (JAD) Levels 1 & 2 and is a qualified tutor at the JAD. As well as teaching private classes in “Special Reading Techniques” to parents of Deaf children, Kamar has taught Jamaican Sign Language at the University of the West Indies (Mona campus) and UTech.
He has worked as a relay interpreter and is an active Deaf advocate who sits on various boards and committees on behalf of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. He has developed countless sign language training manuals and DVDs for use in Jamaica.
Stephanie McIntyre-Groves
The other half of this husband-wife team, Stephanie McIntyre-Groves has 9 years of experience of working with the Deaf community and has completed training in JAD Sign Language Levels 1 & 2.
A passionate advocate for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community, she has developed and conducted training in Jamaican Sign Language for 2 years with private companies and individuals.
Stephanie is a proud pioneer; she has created original Jamaican Sign Language material and written and executed mentorship programmes on entrepreneurship and work-readiness skills for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. She is also a Jamaican Sign Language interpreter.
